Human Resource Generalist

Department: Fragrance Mfg- Production Admin
Location: Harriman, NY, United States

Job Summary:  Under the direction of the Plant Manager, administers full range of HR services to employees at the manufacturing facilities which includes, but is not limited to, talent acquisition, benefit administration, new employee orientation, performance management, employee relations, records management, training and development, EEO compliance, and assistance with safety and health.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists supervisors & managers resolve HR issues according to TAKUS policies and procedures, balancing employee advocacy and business operating needs. 
  • Oversees the recruitment process for manufacturing facility; includes job postings, screening candidates, coordinating interviews with hiring managers, and assisting through the onboarding process.  Maintains regular communication with corporate HR.
  • Performs intermediate employee relations functions including support and counseling regarding personnel and job related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution.  Partners with Plant management and corporate HR to manage employee performance issues, review and assess termination requests; conduct exit interviews, etc.
  • Assists in disciplinary process to ensure proper execution of and adherence to TAKUS policies and legal guidelines in order to minimize companyís exposure to litigation.
  • With the Comp & Benefits Manager, assists in the benefit administration process which includes claims resolution, change reporting, communicating benefit information and open enrollment presentations.
  • Responds to inquiries from employees regarding HR processes and procedures, as well as day to day issues. Occasionally works off-shifts and spends time in the factory to meet and work with all employees during their working hours. Facilitates the resolution of payroll, time and attendance issues by collaborating with corporate payroll manager on a regular basis.
  • Improves supervisor/manager and employee performance by identifying and clarifying problems; evaluating potential solutions; implementing selected solution; coaching and counseling managers and employees. 
  • Collaborates with Comp & Benefits Manager to administer leave of absence process to ensure legal compliance and coordinate return to work for disability, FMLA, and Workers Compensation absences.
  • Supports managers and team members with the annual performance review process.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. 
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. 
  • Maintains the confidentiality of personal employee information, company information, records, and related issues in accordance with all the applicable laws.
  • Reports and maintains compliance with FLSA, DOL, EEOC, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ACA, and related state and federal laws.

Position Qualifications: 

  • Bachelorís Degree in Business, Psychology, Human Resources or related field preferred.  
  • Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience required, preferably in a manufacturing/warehouse environment. 
  • PHR Certification is a plus.
  • Successful candidate should be an energetic, self-starter able to multitask with excellent oral and written communication. 
  • Must possess considerable knowledge of principles and practices of HR administration. 
  • Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills, strong critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills, superior verbal and written skills, presentation skills, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment while managing and executing tasks with multiple conflicting priorities.
