Senior Technologist, Savory Applications & Culinary

Department: Applications/Flavors
Location: Rockleigh, NJ, United States

Job Summary:

  • To provide application & culinary support to the Applications Team. This includes preparation and presentation of existing and new products incorporating Takasago flavors to other members of the Flavor Division, as well as directly or indirectly to clients.
  • Provide Culinary inspiration and influence by combining classical ways of cooking with flavors and technologies internally and externally to assist with flavor and product development.
  • To engage in and support application product development. Utilize existing and new ingredients, processes and concepts to demonstrate Takasago flavors and technologies and maximize sales potential.
  • Process customer sample requests that require application of using existing and new flavors, in a timely manner. This includes working on prioritized projects first and within the agreed upon deadline.
  • Assist flavorists in the flavor application and evaluation of new and existing flavors.
  • Participate in customer and affiliate events to develop new consumer products and concepts.
  • Keep records and establish standard operation procedures for relevant tasks at hand. Assure safe and sanitary working environment and processes.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Keep up-to-date on latest developments in food and bakery technology.
  • Effective communication skills, technical aptitude and strong interpersonal skills.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assume leadership and responsibility working independent and self-directed.
  • Translate company strategy by leading efforts to evaluate flavors and technologies, initiate the revision or development of new and improved and facilitate activities to retain, grow and expand Takasago's business.
  • Be an active partner to grow talent, inspire and allow Junior team members access to new opportunities and experiences.
  • Facilitate and mentor team members to nurture an environment of learning, curiosity and technical aptitude in a conducive and engaging environment.
  • Manage and supervise day to day activities, priorities and resource allocation of department to assure on time and successful project execution.
  • Manage and supervise flavor selection and evaluation process, development of applications to highlight flavor and technology performance and assure alignment with company strategy and tactics.
  • Guide and assure team providing technical application support to the Flavor Division: Sales, Marketing, Flavorists, and others.
  • This includes preparation and presentation of existing and new products incorporating Takasago flavors and technologies, to other members of the Flavor Division, as well as directly or indirectly to clients.
  • To engage in product development, utilizing existing and new ingredients, processes and concepts to demonstrate Takasago flavors and technologies to maximize their sales potential.

Educational Qualifications:
Food science or Culinary degree and/or related degree in a technical field. B.S required.

Experience:
12-17 years in the Flavor or Food Industry. Experience in leading small teams and mentoring Junior employees preferred.

Competencies:
Good written and verbal communication skills. Must be computer literate with knowledge of common business software program. Acute sense of smell and taste. Presentation and communication skills.
